Hi Ajit,
I was in Nokia Developer Summit in Monaco when Ovi was launched. “Ovi is not only for smartphones” was one of the critical statement made there. Agreed with ARJWright.
Now Maemo will enter to the “platform wars”. Nokia is planning to fight with everyone within Ovi.
If we say Nokia was not successful with Ovi, developers will need a huge amount of motivation for BADA due to limited capabilities of S40.

Remember that Ovi wasn’t designed just for their smartphones. At its announcement and launch Nokia was very adamant about Ovi being for both S40 and S60 devices. I don’t think they see Ovi hitting such a small – but profitable – segment of their devices. Though, they do know that Ovi casting such a wide net means that they need to do a lot of things better with it asap (hence the recent pieces coming out about Ovi 2.0 being on the way).

thanks AJ. I dont see any concrete efforts from Symbian re feature phones. and I am not sure if thats possible as well. but pls let me know any links you have kind rgds Ajit

Your viewpoint on Bada doesn’t take the move Nokia is making in terms of pushing Symbian downmarket, encroaching on S40′s territories, and thereore making Ovi a sizable ‘feature phone market’ (not nessairly feature phone platform) competitor.

Android, when it launched, was specifically described by Google as being aimed at feature phones as well as the smart.
That has not yet come to pass with the early implementation, but I can’t believe they don’t still believe it.
It could be that that ship has sailed. It’s aspirational of them to think that the label on the sail should be ‘Bada’!
