The learning from trutap post won the carnival of the mobilists post of the week. See Igor’s blog for an excellent carnival again – Carnival of the mobilists No 153. Andreas also has an excellent post in that carnival about mapping the open source mobile landscape which you should not miss.
I think a lot of people liked the post because many feel(like I do) that the VC model is so flawed and misses so many fundamentals as I pointed out in my original blog. Apart from the direct competitors like Nimbuzz and the big five mobile social networks which I pointed in my blog – there are also local companies like Hyves in Holland(apparently the Dutch PM is a member!)
So, it seems that the model that we can throw some money(in the larger scheme of things – $14.5M is not a lot of money anyway!), ignore market realities(i.e. companies who have loyal subscriber base -in case of Peperonity since 2001) and hope that we can get market traction through PR etc – cannot ever work
In contrast, many other companies have started profitable ventures and built large communities – so the sector itself is sound.
Thanks for your support as usual
